Position Overview:
Join a hospital-based cancer center in Michigan as an experienced Medical Oncologist. The role involves providing care to adult and geriatric patients, with an even split between hematology and oncology.
Practice Setting:
- Outpatient services within a comprehensive cancer center
- Onsite lab, diagnostics, and pharmacy for streamlined patient management
Team Composition:
- Collaborate with a team of 7 physicians across 2 locations
- Supported by approximately 10 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs)
Patient Load and Coverage:
- Outpatient: Manage 10-15 patients per day
- Hospital: Provide care for approximately 15 patients daily
- Participate in a call rotation with 6 other physicians, maintaining a 1:5 call ratio
Clinical Focus:
- Engage in outpatient oncology services
- Participate actively in a multidisciplinary tumor board for the holistic management of cancer care
Procedures and Responsibilities:
- Perform procedures including chemotherapy (intrathecal, intracavitary-intrapleural/peritoneal), fine needle aspirations/biopsies, and management of vascular access devices (VAD) and central venous catheters (CV)
- Order necessary tests and imaging
- Prescribe medications in alignment with best practices
Technology and Systems:
- Utilize the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system for documentation
Credentialing and Licensing:
- Estimated credentialing timeframe includes temporary credentials by the start date, with payer enrollment taking approximately 120 days
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Hematology/Oncology is required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required
- Michigan license is highly preferred, with willingness to obtain it if not already licensed
