Specific Competencies:

  1. Compound and dispense prescribed medications and pharmaceuticals.
  2. Review prescriptions for accuracy and determine necessary formulas and ingredients.
  3. Direct pharmacy workers in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  4. Provide information on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage if counseling is accepted.
  5. Engage patients and clients with customer service and program integrations offered by the pharmacy.
  6. Maintain procedures for quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  7. Enter data such as patient information and medications to maintain pharmacy files and inventory.
  8. Instruct interns and other pharmacy personnel, maintaining legal ratios of pharmacists to technicians and interns.
  9. Resolve third-party Rx system issues and third-party rejection problems promptly.
  10. Report prescription errors immediately and adhere to policy regarding medication incidents.
  11. Be aware of loss prevention measures to minimize profit loss.
  12. Develop relationships with physicians and healthcare professionals to assist customers better.
  13. Analyze complex information, using intuition and experience to supplement data.
  14. Manage difficult customer situations, respond promptly, solicit feedback, and maintain confidentiality.
  15. Maximize sales and control expenses in the retail pharmacy.
  16. Ensure current and consistent pharmacy policies.
  17. Communicate changes effectively, adapt to change, and manage unexpected events.
  18. Understand business implications of decisions, contribute to profits, and conserve resources.
  19. Observe safety and security procedures, report unsafe conditions, and ensure cleanliness and sanitation according to guidelines.
  20. Other duties may be assigned, including technician-related tasks depending on staff availability.
