A unique opportunity is available for a Physician Assistant to join an inpatient team offering diverse surgical services. The role involves providing care across general surgery, trauma, vascular, plastics, colorectal, surgical oncology, and thoracic specialties. The responsibilities include rounding on patients, conducting consults, responding to trauma cases, performing bedside procedures, and offering some OR coverage. The position is integrated within a dynamic team including APP staff and general surgery residents, providing an enriching environment for skill enhancement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide a wide range of diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services.
  • Perform initial assessments and ongoing medical care independently and as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Take medical histories, examine and treat patients, order and interpret tests, and formulate treatment plans.
  • Document patient progress and notify attending physicians of significant changes.
  • Perform medical rounds and respond to emergency situations.
  • Conduct minor surgical procedures and order referrals and medical devices as necessary.
  • Educate patients and staff on health care services and maintain communication with healthcare providers.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Valid Connecticut license for practice and controlled substance registration.
  • DEA registration and eligibility for participation in federal health programs.
  • NCCPA certification with BLS, ACLS required, and ATLS preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in general surgery as a Physician Assistant.

Working Hours

  • Nights, with a flexible schedule to meet patient and staff needs.

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease states, and medication interactions.
  • Excellent physical assessment, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform invasive procedures, work independently, and handle pressure effectively.
